WESCOPEX
‘07 – HAS BEEN CANCELLED!
WESCOPEX
’07 has been cancelled.
It
is with a great deal of regret that we have to announce that the Directors of
WCPS had made the decision to cancel WESCOPEX 2007. We sent out
invitations to 12 dealers and had only three replies. With the cost of
advertising and hall rental we estimated that we would lose over $200 if the
show were held. We didn't think this was in the best interest of the
club. We thank the three dealers that agreed to participate. We
are hopeful that we will be able to hold a show in 2008. We welcome
suggestions from anyone about how to spark renewed interest in the show.
In
Memory
We are saddened to report the passing of two of our long time members:
Jack Corcoran on August 1. Jack was active with the youth and was always found at the youth table at our show.
Beverly Vaughn on August 7. Bev served as our Corresponding Secretary and brought the tea and coffee to the meetings.

James Stewart - Aug. 17

On August 17, 2007, in Universal City, California, the
Postal Service will issue a 41-cent, James Stewart commemorative stamp in
one design in a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) pane of 20. Designed by Phil
Jordan of Falls Church, Virginia, the stamp goes on sale nationwide August 17,
2007. For this 13th issuance in the Legends of Hollywood stamp series,
the U.S. Postal Service® honors James Stewart, the American film star whose lanky physique,
drawling speech, and naturalistic acting style made the characters he played
seem “real.” Art director Phil Jordan designed the stamp using a portrait of
Stewart by Drew Struzan of Pasadena, California, who based his work on a
publicity still for The Stratton Story. The painting on the selvage, also
by Struzan, shows Stewart in Mr. Smith Goes To Washington, the 1939 film
for which he received his first Academy Award nomination for “best actor.”

Alpine Tundra – Aug. 28

On August 28, 2007, in Estes Park, Colorado, the Postal
Service will
issue a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) commemorative sheet of the 41-cent, Alpine
Tundra stamps in ten designs. The stamps, designed by Ethel Kessler of
Bethesda, Maryland, go on sale nationwide August 28, 2007. This $4.10
commemorative sheet may not be split, and the stamps may not be sold
individually. The Alpine Tundra stamps are the ninth in the Nature of
America series designed to promote appreciation of major plant and animal
communities in the United States. To illustrate the diversity of species
associated with the alpine tundra, artist John D. Dawson of Hilo, Hawaii,
depicted more than 24 animal and plant species in his beautiful acrylic
painting. The scene itself is imaginary. Such a dense grouping of plants and
animals was necessary to illustrate as many species as possible on the stamp
pane. Even so, all of the species can be encountered on the alpine tundra of
Rocky Mountain National Park; all were recommended by scientists. A description
of alpine tundra and a numbered key to the artwork appear on the back of the
pane, along with a corresponding list of common and scientific names for 24
species. First day address:
