WESCOPEX ‘07 - SEPT. 22  AT CIRCLEVILLE


WESCOPEX ’07 will be held Saturday, Sept. 22 at the Circleville Fire Hall.  It will be a one-day show this year.  10AM to 5PM

The next meeting of the stamp club will be August 12.  The hall is open from 1 pm, the meeting starts at 2:15 pm.   There will be no meeting in July.

New Issues

Margaret Chase Smith – June 13

On June 13, 2007, in Washington, DC, the Postal Service will issue a 58-cent (2-ounce rate) Margaret Chase Smith definitive stamp in one design in a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) pane of 20 stamps. Designed by Richard Sheaff of Scottsdale, Arizona, the stamp goes on sale nationwide June 13, 2007. This eighth issuance in the Distinguished Americans series honors Margaret Chase Smith, the first Republican woman elected to the U.S. Senate and the first woman to serve in both houses of Congress. Artist Mark Summers of Waterdown, Canada, created the portrait on the stamps. The artwork is based on a photograph by the Harris and Ewing studio, dated 1948. First Day address:

Harriet Beecher Stowe – June 13

On June 13, 2007, in Washington, DC, the Postal Service will issue a 75-cent (3-ounce rate) Harriet Beecher Stowe definitive stamp in one design in a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) pane of 20 stamps. Designed by Richard Sheaff of Scottsdale, Arizona, the stamp goes on sale nationwide June 13, 2007. This ninth issuance in the Distinguished Americans series honors Harriet Beecher Stowe, author of Uncle Tom’s Cabin, one of the most influential novels in American history. Artist Mark Summers of Waterdown, Canada, based his portrait of Harriet Beecher Stowe on a circa 1855 stipple engraving by English engraver Francis Holl (1815– 1884), which in turn was based on an earlier portrait of Stowe by English painter George Richmond (1809–1896). On June 13, 2007, in Washington, DC, the Postal Service will issue a $4.60, Air Force One (Priority Mail) stamp in one design in a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) pane of 20 stamps. Designed by Phil Jordan of Falls Church, Virginia, the stamp goes on sale nation-wide June 13, 2007. Noted aviation artist William S. Phillips of Ashland, Oregon, created the image of Air Force One for the 2007 Priority Mail stamp. First day address:

Designed by Phil Jordan of Falls Church, Virginia, the stamp goes on sale nation-wide June 13, 2007. Noted aviation artist William S. Pacific Lighthouses – June 21

On June 21, 2007, in Westport, Washington, the Postal Service will issue 41-cent, Pacific Lighthouses commemorative stamps in five designs. Designed by Howard E. Paine of Delaplane, Virginia, the stamps go on sale nation-wide June 21, 2007. The Postal Service will issue the Pacific Lighthouses stamps in a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) pane of 20 and a booklet of 20 stamped postal cards. The 2007 issuance of the Pacific Lighthouses stamps features artwork by artist Howard Koslow of Toms River, New Jersey, of the following five Pacific lighthouses:

·        Diamond Head, HI

·        Five Finger, AK

·        Grays Harbor, WA

·        Umpqua River, OR

·        St. George Reef, CA

Each stamp features an original acrylic painting by Koslow based on recent photographs of the lighthouses.  First day address:

 Duck Stamp – June 22

On June 22, 2007, in Springfield, Missouri, the U.S Department of the Interior will formally issue the $15 Migratory Bird Hunting and Conservation stamp for the 2007–2008 waterfowl-hunting season. The stamp goes on sale at Post Offices nationwide June 22, 2007, and is valid through June 29, 2008.  The Migratory Bird Hunting and Conservation stamp will be issued in the following formats:

·          Water-activated gum (WAG) pane of 20. This item will only be available through Stamp Fulfillment Services in Kansas City, Missouri

·          Pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) single stamp.  This item will be available in post offices.


Hearts – June 27

On June 27, 2007, in Washington, DC, the Postal Service will issue Hearts special stamps. Designed by Carl T. Herrman of Carlsbad, California, the stamps go on sale nationwide June 27, 2007.  These stamps will be available in the following two formats:

·          58-cent (2-ounce rate) pane of 20 pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) stamps

·          41-cent (1-ounce rate) $8.20 convertible booklet of 20 PSA stamps

Nancy Stahl of New York, New York, created the artwork on the stamps based on memories of intertwined objects, including silver charms and old-fashioned garden gates.  First day address:

Official Mail Stamp – June 25

The Postal Service will issue a 41-cent Official Mail definitive stamp in a water-activated gum (WAG) coil of 100 stamps, on June 25, 2007, in Kansas City, Missouri. The stamp, designed by the late Bradbury Thompson, goes on sale nationwide June 25, 2007.  Collectors They may purchase new stamps only by mail order from the USA Philatelic catalog or by telephone at 800-STAMP-24.  First day address:

Pollination – June 29

On June 29, 2007, in Washington, DC, the Postal Service will issue 41-cent Pollination commemorative stamps in four designs, in a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) double-sided booklet of 20 stamps.  Designed by Steve Buchanan of Winsted, Connecticut, the stamps go on sale nationwide June 29, 2007.  Buchanan created an intricate graphic scheme that emphasizes the ecological relationship between pollinators and plants, and also hints at the biodiversity necessary to ensure the future viability of that relationship. To that end, the four different stamp designs are arranged in two alternate blocks that fit together like interlocking puzzles. In one block, the pollinators form a central starburst; in the other block, the flowers are arranged in the center.  First day address:
